Dr. Justin Hastings grew up in Boise, moving here from California with his family in 1992. He graduated from Borah High School in 2000, after which he obtained his college degree in biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He was an All-American baseball player in high school and carried his love for the game into college. He pitched for Cypress College in California before attending UCSB. Following graduation, he attended New York University College of Dentistry, where he graduated in the top of his class in 2011. In dental school, he was selected to go on dental outreaches in Nicaragua, Grenada and upstate New York. After dental school, he attended Louisiana State University where he obtained his Medical Degree (MD), completed a General Surgery Internship and obtained his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Certificate upon completion of residency.
Throughout his intensive residency, he was trained in the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery including dentoalveolar surgery (wisdom teeth extractions and comprehensive dental implant placement), orthognathic surgery, temporomandibular joint surgery, cosmetic surgery, head and neck pathology and reconstruction, bone grafting, cleft and craniofacial surgery. During his chief year, he was invited to go on a mission trip to Nicaragua where he performed reconstructive surgery, tumor removal, cleft repair and orthognathic surgery on the local population.
Dr. Hastings continues to operate on the cutting edge of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He is well-versed in the use of virtual surgical planning and medical modeling. This allows him to treatment plan the surgery prior to the actual operation to ensure the optimal outcome. He uses CT-guided implant placement for placement of single implants all the way to full mouth reconstruction. He also uses CT navigation during procedures ranging from placement of implants for oral reconstruction to the reconstruction of multiple facial fractures following a trauma.
As part of Whitewater Oral Surgery, Dr. Hastings continues to use the full scope of his training in his daily practice. He performs dentoalveolar surgery, orthognathic surgery, TMJ surgery, bone grafting, dental implants, oral pathology and facial trauma, as well as all other surgical procedures pertaining to the head and neck.
Dr. Hastings enjoys spending time with his wife, Sarah, and their two children, Kaylee (2 years) and Hunter (8 months). He also has two crazy German Shorthair Pointers, Moose and Remi. As a family they are always looking for new adventures and fun places where the dogs can run off their abundant energy. His entire family loves exploring all that Idaho has to offer including camping, hiking, skiing, hunting and fishing.
