Physician Biography
Originally from San Diego, Dr. Duncan MacDonald graduated from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in 2011. For the first two years of his medical training, Dr. MacDonald lived on St. Marten in the Netherlands Antilles. His third and fourth years were completed at various hospitals in New York City, including Brooklyn Hospital and Staten Island University Hospital. After graduating medical school, Dr. MacDonald attended residency training for three years at the University of Wyoming, where he earned his board certification as a diplomat of Family Medicine. During this clinic-based Family Medicine residency training in 2014, he also practiced surgical obstetrics, emergency medicine, and hospital-based medicine. It was here that he met his wife, Allison, who was practicing Speech Language Pathology.
In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. MacDonald is an officer in the Army Reserves. In his role as an Army officer, he trains soldiers for combat-trauma scenarios, clinic-based medicine, and everything in between. Dr. MacDonald is the medical officer for a local combat engineer Battalion composed of approximately 1000 soldiers. In their personal time, Dr. MacDonald and his wife Allison take pleasure in many of the outdoor activities that Idaho has to offer, especially back packing and river rafting. They also enjoy spending time with their two dogs and three chickens.
Dr. MacDonald takes pride in diagnosing and treating acute and chronic conditions including diabetes, hypertension, obesity, cardiac conditions, endocrine disease, depression, and anxiety in addition to women’s and children’s health and wellness. He will refer patients to specialists for a few specific conditions, including chronic pain treated with narcotics, and psychiatric conditions.
