Dr. Ilya Leyngold is an internationally renowned Johns Hopkins trained surgeon who specializes in aesthetic and reconstructive procedures of the eyelids and face. He is board certified in ophthalmology and a member of American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) and North American Society of Academic Orbital Surgeons, organizations for highly trained oculofacial plastic surgeons. Having performed over 15,000 cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid and facial procedures he offers the highest level of care to his patients. Dr. Leyngold has been invited to teach his surgical techniques to other physicians at Harvard, Yale, Duke, Case Western Reserve and other leading medical institutions throughout the country. He has also presented his work in Europe, South America, and Canada.
Dr. Leyngold was selected as the top medical student to enter ophthalmology residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. After residency he pursued additional surgical training at the nation’s leading ASOPRS oculofacial plastic surgery fellowship in Salt Lake City, Utah with Dr. Richard L. Anderson, one of the most respected surgeons in the field. Following a 2-year rigorous fellowship, he served as a director of the oculofacial plastic surgery service at the University of South Florida (USF) Eye Institute. While at USF, Dr. Leyngold was recognized as one of the top 10 most successful professionals under the age of 40 by the South Tampa Magazine. He was also privileged to serve as the team doctor for Tampa Bay Lightning Hockey Team, and has become an avid hockey fan henceforth.
After 5 years at USF, Dr. Leyngold was recruited to join clinical faculty at Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. During his tenure at Duke, he was promoted to an Associate Professor as he developed multiple cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid and facial procedures. Dr.Leyngold published over 80 original research papers, reviews, commentaries, and book chapters on the topic and had the opportunity to share his passion for surgery with many talented medical students, surgical residents, and fellows, all of whom enriched his academic career significantly. In the year 2020, Dr. Leyngold published the world’s only authoritative textbook on corneal neurotization, an eye saving reconstructive procedure. He was presented with a prestigious ASOPRS Research Award for his outstanding contributions to the field.
After 10 years in academic medicine, Dr.Leyngold moved to Idaho to begin private practice with his twin brother, Dr. Mark Leyngold, and to bring his family together in the Boise area. In his spare time, Dr.Leyngold enjoys spending time with his wife, Ariel, and their two young children, Aiden and Vienna. For hobbies he runs, skis, hikes, works out and plays racquetball.
