James McCoy, MD

Physician Biography

Dr. James McCoy is a highly trained, board-certified psychiatrist.

Education & Training
Raised in an Army family, Dr. McCoy completed his undergraduate degree in construction management at Brigham Young University–Idaho. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2017 and went on to complete his psychiatry residency training. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology .

Professional Background
Since 2017, Dr. McCoy has practiced psychiatry in Southeastern Idaho, affiliated with Madison Memorial Hospital. He brings over eight years of clinical experience managing complex mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, PTSD, and mood dysregulation.

He participates in collaborative efforts to expand psychiatric care access in the region and has been involved in initiatives with the University of Utah and Idaho State University to establish psychiatry training programs in southeastern Idaho.

Approach to Care
Dr. McCoy offers compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each individual's needs. He specializes in diagnostic evaluation, psychopharmacology, and therapeutic planning, while collaborating closely with primary care providers, therapists, and other medical professionals.

Personal Insight
Outside of clinical work, Jim is a devoted husband and father of four children, actively involved in his children’s activities and enjoying Idaho’s outdoors—hiking, camping, fishing, and traveling.
