Physician Biography

Whitney Parnell MD FACS is a general and breast surgeon with over 25 years of experience. She is a member of the Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons and is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery. She is also an active member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons and has additional training in oncoplastic breast surgery including nipple sparing mastectomy.

Dr. Parnell has had the unique opportunity to work in several areas of the United States during her career. She began her general surgery practice in the state of Wyoming (Go Pokes!) going on to start in 2004 the first Bariatric Surgery practice in the state.

Sunny skies and warm beaches came next as she moved her family and started practice in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. Here Dr. Parnell concentrated on her Breast and Anterior Spine access. She was director of the Grand Strand Breast Health program as well as core clinical faculty for the newly created Surgical Residency training program at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

As Dr. Parnell’s family (4 sons and at least 2-3 labradors) grew older, careers and college choices brought the family back to the Pacific Northwest. Dr. Parnell has had the pleasure of working and maintaining licensure in both Idaho and Washington. Dr. Parnell practiced in the Twin Falls area in 2020 before moving to the Treasure Valley in 2022.

The freedom of private practice and the frustration with corporate employment as a surgeon has now brought Dr. Parnell to Boise General Surgery. She passionate about the ability to deliver the individualized care that every patient deserves.

Dr. Parnell is a YTT certified yoga teacher and teaches weekly restorative Yin classes here in the Treasure Valley. She is an overcommitted gardener and enjoys spending time growing, making and eating the food from her backyard with her husband and two chocolate labs.
