Matt Shonnard, MD

Physician Biography

Matt (Matthew C. Shonnard, MD, MPH) received a combined Medical Doctorate (MD) and Masters in Public Health (MPH) degree from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNRSOM) in 2020. Upon completing his intern year in Internal Medicine at UNRSOM, he went on to complete his PM&R residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. In 2024 Matt embarked on a Musculoskeletal Radiology and Interventional Spine fellowship with the man, the myth, the legend, Dr. Douglas Beall in Edmond, Oklahoma. In addition to being Intern of the Year, serving as Chief Resident, and earning the Clerk Award during his fellowship, Matt is Board Certified in PM&R and board eligible for the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians.

Matt chose to specialize in PM&R and interventional spine because it gave him more tools to help improve his patients’ quality of life. Providing relief and hope for people who have been through difficulties and living with pain is something he is so grateful to be able to do. His passions are injections, regenerative medicine, minimally invasive approaches, and microsurgeries. He has published multiple papers, written book chapters, been a part of cutting-edge research and clinical trials, and given podium presentations at society meetings, national and international conferences.

Matt enjoys listening to music, a good story, having “a chat and a laugh” and getting outside to play with his wife and three young kids. Boise is where he and his wife spent a lot of time together when they started dating 15 years ago, and they are excited to finally be returning to one of their favorite places as a family. He was raised in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle area, don’t hold it against him) and looks forward to getting back to all the beauty this corner of the country has to offer. Look for him out cycling, skiing, hiking, and playing tennis and basketball.
