Physician Biography
Melissa Arnold, MD, is a fellowship-trained obstetrician/gynecologist who has a passion for providing compassionate care. She is seeing patients at the North Nampa clinic in St. Luke’s Nampa Regional Medical Center. Arnold joined Saltzer Health in August 2020.
Arnold has a heart for community service. For 10 months in 2018-19, she donated her time with Health Volunteers Overseas at hospitals and provided medical training in Bhutan and Uganda.
In Thimphu, Butan, she volunteered as an attending physician at Jigme Dorgi Wangchuk National Referral Hospital where she created an evidence-based curriculum for a new OB/GYN residency program and provided clinical training for interns and medical residents.
At the Kawempe Referral Hospital in Kampala, Uganda, she created a resident and student orientation curriculum incorporating evidence-based WHO treatment guidelines & clinical education at a training hospital without formal clinical education or management guidelines. She also taught medical students about the obstetric history and physical exam, management of labor, obstetric emergencies, and complications in low-resource, high volume, referral hospitals
Previously, she was an attending physician and assistant professor at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. In her medical practice, Arnold treated patients, taught medical students, served as the OB/GYN department liaison with the Cerner electronic health records system, and helped developed standards for patient safety and quality initiatives. She also served as an ambulatory director at the Tenleytown office where she managed the office, streamlined the patient intake process, and created electronic media for patient education.
At Women’s Health Care Associates in Jacksonville, N.C., she worked in outpatient and inpatient clinical settings focusing on robotic and minimally invasive surgery.
Arnold completed her obstetrics/gynecology residency at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, N.C., where she received the CREOG Award, Daly Award in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. She earned a medical degree at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss., and a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences with honors from Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
