Physician Biography
Dr. Vienna Katana, DO, is a board-certified dermatologist with expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of skin, hair, and nail conditions. She welcomes all ages and is highly skilled in general, complex medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology.
Dr. Katana is from a small town near the Idaho-Montana border and has fond memories growing up near Sandpoint, Idaho. She comes from a humble background as the first college graduate and first doctor in her family. Her interest in medicine and dermatology blossomed at a young age as her 7th grade science fair experiment and poster presentation was on sunscreens and the ability to block harmful ultraviolet radiation.
She completed her undergraduate degree at Boise State University and received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Touro University Nevada, where she developed a strong foundation in holistic patient care. Following her medical education, she served in the United States Navy for eleven years, gaining invaluable experience and advanced her skills in various medical settings. During her service, Dr. Katana was appointed to Senior Medical Officer on an amphibious assault ship. In this role, she was responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to sailors and marines, managing a wide range of medical conditions, and ensuring the health and readiness of the crew. Her experience on the ship included emergency medicine, routine health care, and the management of complex medical cases in a challenging and dynamic environment.
Following her time at sea and residency training, Dr. Katana served as faculty at the Naval Medical Center San Diego Dermatology Residency Program. In this role, she was actively involved in graduate medical education, mentoring and training the next generation of dermatologists. Her contributions to the program included lecturing on advanced dermatological topics, supervising inpatient and outpatient care, and teaching advanced laser techniques with a focus on treating wounded warriors and other traumatic scars. She has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, contributing valuable research and insights to the medical community. Her dedication to education has had a lasting impact on her residents and the broader dermatology community.
Dr. Katana is married and the proud mother of two wonderful children. She and her family are delighted to be back in Idaho, where she continues to serve the community with the same dedication and compassion that have defined her career.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Katana enjoys country music concerts, hiking and camping, Pilates, and cooking with her kids, all which help her maintain a balanced and fulfilling life. Her commitment to service extends beyond her clinical practice, as she continues to serve her country in the Navy Reserve, while engaging in community outreach programs, and providing dermatological care and education to her community.
